Matt DesBrisay is a leadership coach and consultant based in Pemberton, British Columbia. With a career spanning both the ski slopes as an instructor and the boardroom as a corporate leader, Matt brings a unique blend of experiential learning, strategic thinking, and people-centered leadership to his work.
He specializes in supporting mid-career professionals in small to medium-sized businesses—organizations that often lack dedicated leadership development resources but are eager to invest in their people. I am in a highly cross functional senior leadership role with a large team, and have only been with my company for a year. With so many functions and people to oversee, I found I was spinning my wheels a bit as a new leader. I started working with Matt with the goal of identifying and addressing some blockers in my leadership and figuring out where to get initial traction and build some momentum. With curious questions and a little persistence, Matt was able to draw out where I was stuck or holding back and what themes were emerging in that. Within our first few sessions he helped me identify which blockers were structural and needed discussion with my team and my executive leader, and which blockers were my own internal hesitations or patterns. Matt was great at guiding the conversation and keeping me "out of the weeds" so that we could uncover some practical steps and actions I could take sooner than later. He is empathetic yet objective in how he coaches, which is exactly what I needed to be able to zoom out and see the big picture. I'm looking forward to continuing to apply these learnings to some of my medium and longer term objectives at work, and I know Matt is just a call away for the moments I will inevitably need a mirror held up again.
